I was always confused by the signs that read Slow Children at Play
Did these children move at half speed or less
Trapped in some special effect?
And how come I never saw them
As I rode through their special land?
Were certain streets reserved for the slow children
Like some kind of redlining to keep them together?
Or maybe it was the streets themselves
Imbued with some magic that kept the children in place
I felt no different as my bike hurtled along
But maybe I wouldn’t know as I was caught in the same bubble
I never thought to check my watch
But it would explain why my mom said
I was always late for dinner
Stuck in time that must be it
